The Islamic State is losing ground in the Middle East. As a consequence and as revealed in recent events with terrorist attacks in Europe, it suggests that IS is adopting new tactics to attack the West.
These developments are highlighted in the report Changes in Modus Operandi of IS revisited published today by Europol’s European Counter Terrorism Centre (ECTC). The report provides an up-to date assessment of the threat this group poses to the EU and on which basis EU Member States can prepare for future attacks.
Chapter #7 "The internet and social media" of Europol’s report is particularly interesting because it refers to IS’ strastegy on internet and social medias. It highlights the ability of the terrorist group to exploit the best features of new inormation technologies and to adapt counter measures implemented by both the providers of these technologies and security agencies.
