... EUROSINT, the European Open Source Intelligence forum, attracted an audience that one rarely sees in the same room in this city: intelligence specialists from national defense and interior ministers; the European Defense Agency; the European Commission; prime ministerial cabinets; the EU Military Staff and Situation Awareness Center; Europol, the pan-EU police network; Interpol; and a scattering of defense companies, nongovernmental organizations and think tanks.

Working Group - Triple Pack - Brussels - 3-4 July 2007
Brussels, Belgium, 17-18 of April, 2007
On 3rd and 4th July the EUROSINT FORUM will organise a “triple pack” of activities in Brussels that are intended to be short, small and highly interactive meetings which are focused on delivering concrete results.
Violent Radicalisation
This workshop is targeted at those EUROSINT FORUM members who have an interest in Violent Radicalisation. It is not just possible to research the issue using open sources, but also to identify specific individuals at risk by examining these sources. Starting after lunch on Tuesday July 3rd at 1400, this workshop will spend an afternoon (until approximately 1800) examining the issues. There will be no “speakers”: the collective knowledge of those in the room will be used in a moderated and highly-interactive process, supported by a set of software analysis tools.
The aim will be:
i) to identify the driving forces that are at work, as well as
ii) to start reflection on alternative strategies to reduce potential threats. A maximum of twelve people will be able to attend this session, so your early registration is encouraged. For those interested, there will be a dinner on the evening of July 3rd.
Training Providers
The meeting on training seeks to gather institutional and individual actors interested in realising or contributing to an OSINT training programme. This meeting will start with a dinner on July 3rd (jointly with the colleagues handling Radicalisation). The meeting itself will run on Wednesday July 4th from 0900 to 1300, followed by a sandwich lunch. As the EUROSINT FORUM will not engage in commercial activities, and cannot offer the training itself, the question is open as to which individuals or institutions are interested in collaborating to organize and deliver an OSINT training course. Interested parties could include governmental institutions (e.g. staff colleges), universities, or private service actors. If you or your organisation is interested in contributing here, we welcome your attendance as we hope to identify one or more project bearers at this stage. Moreover, the views of the individuals who will deliver OSINT training are essential: hence if you would like to be considered as a trainer, you should attend to make sure the syllabus reflects your input.
Metadata Formats
This session seeks to bring together those who provide open source information and intelligence to security services, as well as those in the administrations who are frustrated at the lack of a single format in meta-tagging of important data (be it with regards to the time, date and location of sources, or within the text when referring to names, places, events etc). It will start with an informal lunch on July 4th at 1300 and conclude at 1800. The aim is to have all information providers understand what meta-tags (and perhaps nomenclatures) clients in the security sector would like to have in material that is sent to them. This session will kick off a process that will likely be prolonged on-line.
