       ... EUROSINT, the European Open Source Intelligence forum, attracted an audience that one rarely sees in the same room in this city: intelligence specialists from national defense and interior ministers; the European Defense Agency; the European Commission; prime ministerial cabinets; the EU Military Staff and Situation Awareness Center; Europol, the pan-EU police network; Interpol; and a scattering of defense companies, nongovernmental organizations and think tanks.

Working Group - "Training - Brussels - 18 January 2007

"Best Practices in Open Source Information/Intelligence Training"
Venue:
Brussels, Belgium
Event date(s):
Thursday, 18 January, 2007

We are pleased to welcome you to the first meeting of the EUROSINT FORUM's Working Group on Best Practices in Open Source Information/Intelligence Training. Chief among the aims is the desire to establish a European school of best practice in the collection, management, and use of open source intelligence. To this end, the group aims to take the following steps:

  1. Conduct an audit of existing training programs and identify any shortcomings they might have.
  2. In collaboration with key European actors and agencies, devise a programme that plugs the training gaps identified and fosters new thinking on the use and application of OSINF/T.
  3. Test the effectiveness of this programme among European actors working in (or with) open source information/intelligence.

This Working Group, led by Chris Pallaris , will focus on establishing the needs of European governmental institutions with regard to the training of open source information/intelligence specialists. The results of this needs analysis meeting will enable us to draw up a suitable curriculum.

This first meeting will also look at the Working Group's wider aims and build an agenda for future meetings and activities such as the training needs of analysts.
